Erzhof (46)

Erzhof, headquarters of Essener Verkehrs-AG, built between 1922 and 1924
  • The head office of Essener Verkehrs-AG (EVAG) is now located in the Erzhof building. EVAG is one of the largest local public transport companies in the Ruhr area, conveying some 310,000 passengers every day. This impressive building was built for an ore trading company between 1922 and 1924 to the plans of the Essen architect Emil Jung. The rotunda in the middle is particularly eye-catching. The ground floor of the Erzhof is faced with natural stone on both the inside and outside. The neighbouring buildings on Zweigertstraße which were built later copied the style of this clinker brick façade. Sculptures by Joseph Enseling can be seen in the foyer. The Erzhof building has been a listed building since 1992.
