Your cultural walk starts at the Martinstraße stop, exit C, Girardethaus. You continue to walk along Rüttenscheider Straße up to Rüttenscheid Bridge; you then go along the cycle path which leads you to Margarethenhöhe.
The walk takes about 30 minutes; alternatively, you can travel with the U 17 tram from Essen main railway station. The Margarethenhöhe garden city, named after its benefactor Margarethe Krupp and completed by the architect Georg Metzendorf, was already regarded during its construction between 1909 and 1920 as a prime example of a functional and, at the same time, people-friendly housing development. Margarethenhöhe is characterised by narrow streets and quaint houses.
