Markt- u. Schausteller-Museum

Museum of market history and showmen's tradition

The Markt- und Schausteller-Museum is unique in Germany, offering a sensational collection of exhibits from fairgrounds and markets. These exhibits mainly date back to the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th century. They range from carrousels, carrousel animals and fairground gaming machines, market wagons, equipment from markets and funfairs to the equipment of travelling cinemas and showmen’s caravans. The museum in Essen documents an important aspect of the Ruhr area’s culture as funfairs played a major role in industrial conurbations like the Ruhr. The museum does not have regular opening hours. You can register for group tours and obtain information at the Ruhrlandmuseum.
