Largest synagogue north of the Alps, built between 1911 and 1913

Centre of Jewish culture 

After a construction period of two years, the 'Old Synagogue' was reopened as a centre of Jewish culture on 13 July 2010. The permanent exhibition documents all the different facets of Jewish life. As an ensemble with the Old Catholic Church, the synagogue forms the gateway to the east district of Essen.
