Siedlung Altenhof I

The Krupp estates Altenhof I, built between 1893 and 1905, and Altenhof II, built between 1907 and 1913, are important witnesses to the historical development of housing estates. Altenhof I, built by Robert Schmohl in the English cottage or Domestic Revival style, is characterised by old-German, half-timbered houses. On Wittekinstraße there are some benefice houses, where widows and widowers received board and lodgings, as well as the Altenhofkapelle (Altenhof chapel), built in 1900 and re-erected after its destruction during the War in 1952 by Schmohl. Altenhof II is almost completely preserved. The picturesque estate consists of two and three-room stucco houses without half-timbering. Both estates were built by Krupp for the elderly, disabled and single people, who were allowed to live there rent-free.
